Cricket – Year 8

Wednesday afternoon in the glorious surroundings of the Lampton School Field the Year 8 cricket team played against Isleworth and Syon.

Glorious conditions led to a much anticipated encounter between 2 championship contenders. The weather looked good and the suncream was out (for the manager anyway).

Captain Mahesh Chanda won the toss and elected to bat. This decision was soon vindicated as opening batsman Mihir set about destroying the Isleworth attack. A swashbuckling innings from Mihir (34) saw Lampton race to 46 without loss. Number 3 batsman Kavir (27 not out) continued the onslaught and runs were flowing like Ryan Mullally’s hair. Nikhil, Shivam and Junayd then decided to hand a bit of initative back to Isleworth by just letting the ball hit their stumps. A brief thunderstorm did little to dampen Lamptons agressive batting and excellent batting from Kivar and a short camio from debutant Csaba led to a excellent total of 105 being posted.

Isleworth started their innings well and scored at a good rate. But Lampton showed amazing resiliance and heads didnt drop. At the half way point of the innings Isleworth were half way there…..the match was tense and perfectly poised. Lampton needed a hero, that hero was Shivam Patel. The tallismanic figure shrugged off fitness concerns to rip through Isleworths middle order and turn the match in Lampton’s favour. Excellent controlled bowling at the death from Nikhil and Mahesh and some tight fielding limited Isleworths progress.

They needed 9 to win of the final over…..

They didnt make it.

Lampton were victorious by the close margin of 2 runs.

Congratulations to the team on an amazing performance…. Mahesh (C), Mihir, Kavir, Nikhil, Shivam, Junayd, Csaba, Mohammad, Kishan, Shray, Azim, 12 man: Omar
