1) DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW STATEMENT
As a department we want to encourage as many students as possible to be musically active. We encourage students to perform and compose and to be able to evaluate critically the music they listen to. We also aim to make it FUN! We want to give a broad range of musical experiences to students building confidence in performing and hopefully giving them musical memories that will last a lifetime.

As a department we run several extra-curricular clubs. These include:
- Guitar Ensemble
- Staff choir
- Ukulele orchestra
- Chamber Orchestra
- Music theory
- Revision and homework catch up sessions.
We put on a selection of concerts throughout the year, including:
- KS4 and 5 recital
- Music and Drama Summer Showcase
- School Production
The music department also work in collaboration with the drama department to put on a school musical every year, past performances include: We Will Rock You, Grease, Little Shop of Horrors. Instrumental lessons are also offered on a variety of instruments taught by instrumental teachers from Hounslow Music Service. Please speak with Miss Bowater for further information regarding this.
How to support your child:
Help your child by ensuring they learn musical key words; notation; sounds and characteristics of musical instruments and the musical elements. Pupils are encouraged to access homework through the student CRL. If your child takes additional instrumental lessons, encourage them to practise regularly throughout the week. If not, encourage them to learn to play a musical instrument. There is evidence on how learning a musical instrument can develop their overall academic achievement.
