Lampton School - Week 21
Posted on Feb 19th 2024
Monday 19th February
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the sixth week of the Spring Term 2024. It’s Week B with year assemblies taking place.
I hope you and your families had a restful half-term break. Today, Y11 have started the second round of their Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs) in advance of the all important Public Examinations in the summer. The Thursday before half-term saw the Y13 Parents’ Evening where areas for development were shared with students for implementation between now and the summer. So, for students in these two critical year groups the countdown to the exams is now a reality. Not a moment of time can be wasted and work outside of school hours is critical to success.
Y9 have completed their GCSE options interviews and will have their choices confirmed in the coming weeks. So, a critical time for this cohort too.
A reminder that if you haven’t done so already, you can still download the SIMS Parent App. It is good to hear how useful families are finding the SIMS app in supporting their child’s education. If you have yet to download it or have any questions, please contact the school via parentapp@lampton.org.uk
This Friday (23rd February) is the school’s remote learning day. Details of this for each year group will be posted on your child’s Google Classroom page. On-site learning will only take place for certain groups and you will be informed if this applies to your child.
With best wishes for the week ahead,
Stephen Davis
Safeguarding briefing: Children and social media
The recent murder of Brianna Ghey highlighted the dangerous role that social media can play in the lives of young people. Brianna’s mother’s campaign to stop under-16s from using social media is based on concern that social media can warp young people’s personal development. As a safeguarding team, we often deal with the serious harm caused to children through either inappropriate or over-extended social media use. This article offers some thoughts on how parents may approach this issue with their child. As a school, we are clear that minimum ages for social media should be observed, and parents should be actively monitoring their child’s social media use. For more information, please see our e-safety guide.
Jack Petchey Award - Year 11 recipient
The school has been working closely with the Jack Petchey Foundation to recognise students who have shown grit, kindness and responsibility during their studies at Lampton. Those recognised receive recognition through a certificate and a badge, as well as a £300 prize which they can use to benefit their peers at school.
Sukhmandeep in Year 11 is our first recipient for this academic year. Ms Virdi nominated Sukhmandeep due to her unrelenting kindness, politeness and dedication to her studies at school. She has kindly donated her prize fund to purchase books for the school library.
Further recipients will be announced throughout the academic year.
Extra-curricular activities
This academic year we will be continuing to expand our extra curricular offerings to provide students with as many opportunities to develop their character outside of lessons. We offer a wide range of clubs which include sports, performing arts and academic activities - more information and a timetable can be found on the year group google classroom pages and the Lampton School website.
Club Spotlight:
Crochet Club
When: Wednesdays after school Rm32 with Ms Syed and Ms Khan
Every Wednesday after school in the Science department we run a crocheting club, all students are welcome. A great opportunity to develop a new creative skill and practise a calm and therapeutic activity!
Unifrog - help support your child research their career
All students have Unifrog accounts and should be using this to conduct further research into careers and pathways for the future. Students can also use this to log enrichment activities in order to ensure that they are continuing to build up a wide range of skills to help them in the future. We encourage all students to log on and complete a personality profile as soon as possible. https://www.unifrog.org/
Careers focus: Students have access to a wide range of careers related opportunities including one-to-one advice, workshops and visits. Last week we marked National Apprenticeship Week with a number of activities in tutor period. Further information can be found on the apprenticeships website as well as on Unifrog.
