Lampton News - Week 13

Posted on Nov 29th 2021

Monday 29th November

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our weekly update for the thirteenth  week of the Autumn Term 2021.

Omicrom Variant & Winter Readiness:

Over the weekend the government announced that, as a result of the Omicrom variant, face coverings are now compulsory in communal areas of all secondary schools until further notice. This means that all students must wear a face covering in corridors, the hall, canteen, study support and other communal areas of the school. Please ensure that your child has an appropriate covering each day. If your child is exempt from wearing a face covering, you should complete the exemption form (see link: https://forms.gle/4178qwst8VNNoyZF8). Your child will then be issued with an exemption lanyard which must be worn each day.

Hounslow Covid rates continue to rise and local Public Health have issued the following winter readiness guidance to ensure that hospitals are not overwhelmed:

  • Ensure that all eligible family members have received the Covid vaccination and booster;

  • Ensure that all eligible family members have received the ‘flu jab;

  • Test twice per week at home.

Walk-in vaccinations are available for 12-15 year olds at the Heart of Hounslow medical centre on Bath Road; you can also use the national booking system.

To further aid our Covid risk assessment measures, we are asking that students do not congregate outside of the school gates at the start and end of the day - staff will ask them to move away from the vicinity immediately and this includes the parade of shops at the end of Lampton Avenue.

January on-site Covid testing:

On the return to school in January 2022 students will be tested once on-site. They should test at home on Monday 3rd January prior to their return on Tuesday 4th January when testing will take place for each year group.

Thank you for your support with these enhanced measures which are designed to keep us all safe, to protect the NHS this winter and to ensure that we can all enjoy a more normal Christmas break with our families than last year. It’s important that we all play our part.

If the situation changes during the week, we will update you via this page.

Best wishes,

Stephen Davis

Action for Refugees:

To support Afghan refugees in the community, the Campaigns Committee have planned lots of exciting events. We will be collecting toys, toiletries and clothing to donate to the Afghanistan mosque in Hounslow.  By donating essential items and clothes, we will be welcoming refugees into our community. Our donations will support families who are in incredibly difficult circumstances.

Other exciting events include: an Art competition (there has been a parent pay created and each entry costs 50p), Afghanistan food served in the canteen on the 10th December and the Campaigns Committee are running lunchtime clubs. During the lunchtime clubs, students are invited to make welcome cards. Students are also invited to bring in homemade cakes. We are welcoming homemade cakes into school on the 8th and 9th December. Please tell your child to bring the cakes straight to the Communication Centre in the morning.

Applications to Sixth Form - Reminder

Now that Y11 students have completed their assessments & attended the Sixth Form Open Eve, hopefully they have a good idea of subjects that they would like to study.  They can complete the application form here https://www.lampton.org.uk/390/application-forms .  If students have any questions, they should speak with their tutors, teachers or a member of the sixth form team.
