Lampton School - Week 17
Posted on Jan 16th 2023Monday 16th January
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the third week of the Spring Term 2023. It’s Week A and Mr Bates and Ms Bolton are leading whole school assemblies focusing on mental health and strategies we can all use to support our wellbeing. Resources are available on our wellbeing board on Google Classroom and the school website.
This Wednesday sees our Y9 Options Evening taking place and I look forward to seeing you all there for this very important event.
Our character theme for this fortnight is ‘empathy’ and students will be learning about this in tutor periods, with achievement points focused on this.
From Tuesday 21st February 2023, the Lampton community will benefit from a much wider variety of catering services as the school moves to a new, external, supplier ‘Cucina’. They work with many other local schools and after a tender process myself, SLT and Trustees believe that they will provide a much enhanced provision for Lampton. Mr Lane (Chief Admin Officer) outlines some of the highlights to look forward to below. I’d like to place on record my thanks to our internal team who have been leading on catering for a number of years, many of which were under challenging circumstances in our old canteen. A new chapter begins and it’s going to be exciting times ahead!
With best wishes for the week ahead.
Stephen Davis

Cucina at Lampton School
We are excited to share the news with families that Cucina will launch the school’s new catering service from February half term. Cucina, part of Impact Food Group, provide catering in a number of nearby secondary schools and have been commended for their quality, variety and student-focussed approach to encouraging positive life-long eating habits. Lampton School’s Dining Hall will continue to serve halal and vegetarian options, alongside new non-halal meat options and a broad range of deli-style and street-food products which reflect current trends. Students will have greater choice, with different portion sizes and the opportunity to sit down with a plate, knife and fork, or to eat on-the-go with a recyclable box. There will be a daily breakfast service, with free porridge, and a tasty selection of mid-morning snacks at break times. Look out for the menus in a future bulletin. Our existing kitchen team will continue to prepare and serve the food, to create a ‘familiar but even better’ atmosphere in the Dining Hall.
New extra curricular timetable
We have recently extended our extra-curricular offer to include further opportunities for students. For further details please see our extra-curricular webpage.
Safeguarding Briefing: The Metaverse
Christmas has now come to a close and a new year has begun. If your child has a new electronic device such as a Virtual Reality headset, Playstation 5 or new PC, it is important to understand the degree to which they can access the ‘metaverse’. Many devices allow unrestricted access to the internet and expose children to voice chat, text chat and photo sharing with complete strangers. This year presents an acceleration of vulnerability window as, VR headsets, connected to Facebook’s Metaverse have been released onto the marketplace. The Metaverse seeks to link users to the internet as a Virtual Entity through the use of Virtual Reality Headsets. This amplifies the danger children are exposed to online. To help you understand this new, fast changing issue the NSPCC has published a guide to both the Metaverse and VR headsets. To find out more please see this link from the NSPCC. This guidance from Internet Matters is important reading for parents of children who play Fortnite. If you have any concerns about your child, please do contact the safeguarding team for further support (safeguarding@lampton.org.uk).
