Lampton School - Week 24
Posted on Mar 13th 2023
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the tenth week of the Spring Term 2023. It’s Week B, so year assemblies are taking place and our character theme continues to be self-awareness.
The final round of the current industrial action by the NEU regarding school funding and staff pay takes place this week on Wednesday and Thursday. As per the previous strikes, the school site will be closed for students and non-striking staff will deliver lessons online. Please see the attached letter which outlines arrangements for the days. Thank you for your understanding during these periods of disruption and though no further strike action is planned currently, there does not seem to be any resolution to this dispute on the horizon. I anticipate further disruption in the months ahead and will keep you updated as much as possible.
Last week saw our first Character and Awards event take place. A packed hall saw Y7 students have their achievements celebrated preceded by refreshments and a chance to meet form tutors beforehand in the dining hall. Events will follow between now and July for other year groups..watch this space for details.
We welcomed back at the start of last week two groups of Lampton students who had been on residential trips to Spain and France - both groups had a fantastic and educational time. My thanks to those staff who not only organised these opportunities but gave up their time to accompany students on these valuable trips. I was delighted to receive the email below from a member of the public:
“This evening I travelled from Madrid to Heathrow with a group of students and staff from your school. The students were a credit to themselves, their parents and your staff and the wider school community.
What a lovely group they all were!”
Great to see and hear about our Lampton values of excellence, integrity and respect in action!
With best wishes for the week ahead.
Stephen Davis
Year 11 Parents Evening - Changes to the times of the evening
Year 11 parents’ evening is on Thursday 30th March 2023. We have changed the times of this parents’ evening as Ramadan will have started by then. We believe that changing the time of the parents’ evening will make it easier for students and parents to attend. Therefore Year 11 parents’ evening will start at 16.00 and end at 19.00.
Safeguarding briefing - children sharing a bedroom
As children grow up they might want more privacy and need their own space, especially if they're sharing a bedroom with a brother or sister. While it's not illegal for them to share, it's recommended that children over the age of 10 should have their own bedrooms – even if they're siblings or step-siblings. However, we know that in practice given housing costs, it’s not always possible. This guide from the NSPCC outlines some important considerations to help safeguard and protect personal development of children. If you would like any further support with this, or any other safeguarding matter, please contact our safeguarding team safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.
International Women’s Day assembly
Last week Year 11 students gave an inspiring whole school assembly to celebrate progress towards equality, and to challenge staff and students about remaining inequalities. A shout out to Ms Grantham and the Y11 Fermale Lead group for planning, organising and delivering!
Basketball success!
The school’s U16 boys' team won the Hounslow borough basketball tournament last week.
This is an annual event which takes place at West Thames College involving schools in the borough. The U16 team is mainly made up of students in year 10 & 11 combined. This year we had a strong group and won every game in the pool meaning the Lampton team became champions. Congratulations to the winning team and Coach Mike!
