Lampton School - Week 31

Posted on May 15th 2023

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the fifth week of the Summer Term 2023. It’s Week A, so whole school assemblies are taking place this week. I am very proud that our assemblies this week are being led by Ilie in Y9 talking about the on-going war in Ukraine and the reasons for its importance to us all. Ilie was born and grew up in Ukraine, only coming to the UK two years ago and has friends and family still in the war torn country. His message is very powerful and it is a privilege for us to hear an authentic voice on this matter. Thank you Ilie and well done for leading our assemblies!

The Public Examinations have started in earnest today. It is imperative that Y11 and Y13 students are well prepared and punctual to their exams. To support this, pre-exam briefings precede each paper and these sessions help to calm those last minute nerves…

Tomorrow is the Y9 celebration event and I look forward to welcoming a large number of families on that occasion. Next week is the last week of our academic year with all year groups being promoted on Monday 5th June. A reminder that school will be closed to students on Friday 26th May for INSET.

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Safeguarding bulletin - social, emotional and mental health provision

We know that being a teenager can be a difficult time - especially as young may start to experience profound emotions for the first time. Most young people will experience such emotions and be able to engage and process strong thoughts and feelings. For those students who can, we always recommend self care strategies. The Anna Freud centre has offers online webinars for young people, and we strongly encourage students to access these.  However, other students will require more specialist support. If you are concerned about your child’s social, emotional and mental health, please do get in touch safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.

UK Junior Maths Challenge

The Junior Maths Challenge results are out! No less than 51 of our year 7 and 8 mathematicians earned themselves a medal, and three qualified for a follow up round, the infamous Junior Kangaroo (Hrik, Sangeethan and Eyad from Year 8). Well done to all students, and good luck to our Junior Kangaroo competitors!

Basketball success!

Our year 7 & 8 basketball team have both qualified for the Jr NBA national school's final.

The finals will take place on 22nd June for the Year 7 team and 23rd June for the Year 8 team. The finals will be held at the University of East London. It's the very first time in the school's history that two year groups have both qualified for the national finals. This a massive sporting achievement for those students involved, and we wish them the best of luck.
