Lampton School - Week 1
Posted on Sep 6th 2023
Wednesday 6th September
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the first week of the Autumn Term 2023. Today we welcomed our new Year 7 cohort as they begin their journey through Lampton School, and our new Y12 cohort too - including many external students who have decided to come to Lampton to study post-16.
This summer we celebrated excellent results at both GCSE and Post-16 - significantly exceeding both national and local averages. Our Post-16 students have moved on to some of the most prestigious universities in the country, a large number to study medicine and dentistry and some to prestigious work based programmes. My congratulations to them all and my thanks to families for their support and staff for going the extra mile! As it is Week A, I shall be leading our whole school assemblies and my theme will be celebrating the success of our students and looking forward to the future.
You may have seen in the media over the last week the stories regarding Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) and its use in school buildings. I can confirm that there is not any RAAC present on the Lampton School site - confirmed by engineering surveys undertaken by the Academy Trust and the Department for Education (DfE).
As this is our first newsletter for the term there is a great deal of information below. Please do take time to read these essential items.
With best wishes for the week ahead,
Stephen Davis
How we can help you to support your child in school
We know just how crucial it is that parents and carers are involved in their child’s education. Parents have an essential role in ensuring that their children are ready for school - arriving on time (by 8.30am) each day with correct equipment and uniform, and only taking absence when it’s unavoidable. Similarly, where parents take an interest in their child’s education - knowing what they’re learning at school, what book they’re reading, what extra-curricular activities they take part in, this encourages and motivates children to pursue excellence.
We want to involve parents in the life of the school as fully as possible. Last year we introduced year-group specific celebration evenings. These will take place in the second half of the school year, and focus on recognising and celebrating the many achievements of your children. This academic year all of our parents’ evenings will be face to face; this follows on from a survey that indicated that parents considered face to face events to give a more meaningful insight. More information will follow closer to the time and a list of parents evenings is included below.
We are also in the process of updating information available via our website for parents. Parents can access information about our curriculum via the subjects page, and find email addresses for key contacts this page.We will shortly be updating parents on how they can find out about their child’s homework.

Safeguarding briefing
Following on from the summer holidays, it is to be expected that students will feel a range of emotions about the return to school. In our experience most students are keen to return to the classroom, to reconnect with their peers and teachers. However, we know that for some students, this may be a time of heightened anxiety - and they may be returning to school reluctantly. This can be difficult for families, and we want to help out. This guidance gives some useful tips for parents and carers, and if you would like to discuss how we can support your child in school please contact the Safeguarding team via email safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.
Heatwave
Due to the heat this week, for the remainder of this week the ‘heatwave uniform’ will apply - and so blazers and ties will be optional for all students. Students should expect to wear their full uniform again on Monday, until informed otherwise.
Thank you from SPEAR for our fundraising efforts
In July the whole school took part in a 10 kilometre sponsored walk around Osterley Park to raise money for SPEAR, a charity supporting people who experience homelessness in South West London. We were delighted to receive this letter of thanks from SPEAR, confirming we raised a grand total of £2,189! Well done to all who took part, and a heartfelt thank you to families and friends who donated money.
New to Lampton, and want to pay for your child’s food at school?
We are a cashless school and use ParentPay for families to add credit to a secure online account which your child can spend in the Dining Hall at breakfast, break and lunchtimes. ParentPay is also used to pay for trips and other activities throughout the school year. We have sent families letters with unique user IDs to set up your account. If your child receives free school meals, you can still add credit if you want them to buy additional food, for example at breaktime. Any food bought before your account is live will be charged to your account once it is created. If you have yet to set up your ParentPay account please do so, and please email enquiries@lampton.org.uk if you would like help.
Focus on extracurricular activities
This academic year we will be continuing to expand our extra curricular offerings to provide students with as many opportunities to develop their character outside of lessons. These will be wide ranging and include sports, art, music, drama and much more. The extra curricular timetable will be posted around the school at the start of term and we encourage students to attend as many clubs as possible!
Club Spotlight: Geography Club!
What: Come along to go learn, investigate and explore different diverse aspects of Geography. From nature trips, careers workshops, special guests to gardening and social action - The possibilities are endless. It’s the best club in the world!
When: Wednesdays After School in the Geography Department
Focus on uniform:
Please make sure your child is ready for the year ahead! This means full uniform, black bag and full PE kit. For details on uniform please check here.
Please note that the only jewellery that will be accepted is for religious significance (such as the kara for Sikhs), a watch, or one pair of small ear studs (through the ear lobe) and / or a plain nose stud. Nose rings, bracelets, and necklaces are not allowed. Rings are not to be worn at school.
Please make sure your child has all the necessary equipment - using the equipment checklist.
