Lampton School - Week 4
Posted on Sep 25th 2023
Monday 25th September
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the fourth week of the Autumn Term 2023. It’s Week B, so year assemblies are taking place this week.
A reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday 26th September, is our annual Open Evening for students wishing to transfer to Lampton in Y7 2024. School will close for students in all year groups at 12.30pm tomorrow. Only those students who have permission to help for the event will be permitted on site in the evening. Open evening will run from 5.00pm-7.30pm, with speeches and 5.10pm and 7.00pm. On Wednesday 27th September, school starts at the slightly later time of 9am with normal lessons taking place from 9.10am.
Visiting lessons last week it has been so pleasing to see students engaged in their learning, well-equipped to learn with full pencil cases and smartly presented. This is the Lampton way and is expected day-in-day out. A reminder that school rules apply on the journey to and from school and we expect full uniform to be correctly worn at these times - students are representing our school in the community.
I am pleased to report that whole school attendance is currently very strong at 95%. Well done to Y12 who had the best attendance last week of 97.5% followed by Y7 with 96.8%. A reminder that our expectation is that all students aim to have an attendance figure of at least 96% - the best way to be successful is to attend school on time everyday.
A reminder that school will be closed for students all day on Thursday due to INSET Day. School will resume at 8.40am on Friday 29th September.
With best wishes for the week ahead.
Stephen Davis
Form tutor introductions
On Thursday's INSET day, form tutors will be endeavouring to contact you to give you to introduce themselves as your child’s form tutor, and to give a brief update on your child's progress this year so far. We will try to contact you by phone first, and if we can't get through we will email instead.
Extra-curricular
This academic year we will be continuing to expand our extra curricular offerings to provide students with as many opportunities to develop their character outside of lessons. These will be wide ranging and include sports, art, music, drama and much more. Extra-curricular timetables can be found on year group google pages.
Club Spotlight: Band Club
When: Wednesdays after school
Where: Music department - P6

Safeguarding briefing - radicalisation
All UK schools have a duty to help prevent students from being radicalised in an extremist ideology that is at odds with British values. As well as religious extremism, young people can be attracted to single issue causes, which typically draw on hatred towards people from particular racial or religious groups, or from hostility towards women or the LGBT community. We are also aware that conspiracy theories can act as a gateway to radicalisation. As a school we promote British values (individual liberty, democracy, the rule of law, mutual respect and toleration) as an antidote to extremism, and to give students a framework for how to make positive change happen in society.
Parents should also be aware of the risk that violent and extreme ideologies pose to young people. The main way that children are exposed to such messages are online, and it is vital that parents maintain internet filters on all devices, including phones. The Educate Against Hate website has information on how parents can help protect their children. If you are concerned about your child, please do contact the safeguarding team for further discussion safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.
Reminder: School streets restriction
The access restrictions operating in Lampton Avenue have been resumed and are now permanent. This means that unauthorised vehicles will receive a penalty charge notice if they enter the School Street zone during the hours of operation. The hours of operation are 8.15am to 9.15am and 2.45pm to 3.45pm. A camera has now been installed at the entrance to Lampton Avenue and unauthorised access fines start at £60. We would encourage all pupils to walk, cycle or use public transport to journey to school.
