Lampton School - Week 5
Posted on Oct 2nd 2023
Monday 2nd October
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the fifth week of the Autumn Term 2023. It’s Week A, so whole school assemblies are taking place this week and are being led by Mr Bates (Deputy Headteacher).
We had an incredibly busy and successful Open Evening last Tuesday. My thanks to staff for their hard work but also a big thank you to all of our student guides and departmental helpers who were absolute credits to themselves, their families and the school. Special thanks as well to our student speakers in both Y8 and Y13 who were exceptional. It was, all in all, a great Lampton event!
The Children’s Commissioner, Dame Rachel de Souza has launched a national consultation of children and young people called #TheBigAmbition. The details are below and the link to the survey will be shared with Lampton students so that their voice can be heard at a national level. For more details please see: www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/the-big-ambition
“The Children’s Commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, has launched #TheBigAmbition - a new campaign to hear directly from children and young people who are 0-18 years old and living in England. She wants to hear what they want the UK Government to focus on, to make their lives and children across England’s lives better.
As General Election is approaching, The Commissioner wants to ensure their voices are reflected in policy makers' decisions. Once she has a comprehensive picture of the practical changes that children want to see, she will call on all the political parties for these changes to be adopted across manifestos.”
As the weather becomes more Autumnal and the nights begin to draw in, it’s timely to remind you about our uniform requirements regarding outdoor clothing which are very simple and easy to follow. From the school website:
Coats:
BLACK ONLY. No coloured jackets. Outside jackets should be at least of blazer length (i.e ‘Bomber’, ‘Puffer’ jackets or ‘Hoodies’ are not suitable.) Motifs on jackets are not allowed.
Scarves:
Neck scarves may be worn in cold weather. They should be black in colour and plain.
Thank you for your support in this matter. Clothing which does not conform to these expectations will be confiscated and returned to the student at the end of the day. Persistent breaches will lead to further school sanctions such as community service and Reflection Room.
With only three school weeks left until the half-term break, for Y11 our thoughts turn to the rapidly approaching Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs) which will take place immediately after the break starting on Monday 30th November. Last week’s year assembly focused on planning for revision and the importance of study outside of school hours. The Parents’ Evening takes place on Thursday 14th December when the results will be shared and targets for improvement discussed. It’s important that not a moment is wasted for success next summer!
With best wishes for the week ahead,
Stephen Davis
Exam Readers and Scribes
Lampton School are looking to expand our Inclusion team by recruiting temporary exam scribes and readers for the forthcoming PPE exam season in October and December. The role will be to act as a scribe and reader for students with Special Educational Needs. The applicant would be required for sessions in the morning and afternoon, lasting between one and three hours. If you are interested in applying, please click here for more information and to apply.
Extra-curricular focus
This academic year we will be continuing to expand our extra curricular offerings to provide students with as many opportunities to develop their character outside of lessons. These will be wide ranging and include sports, art, music, drama and much more. Extra-curricular timetables can be found on year group google pages.

Safeguarding briefing - parental controls
With children spending increased amounts of time online, it is incredibly important to filter what they may see. At school we have advanced filtering and monitoring systems to accomplish this, and we keep these under regular review. At home, the multiplicity of ways that children can access the internet can make it difficult to understand the actions that parents should take. This guide from the NSPCC outlines clear steps that parents can take to ensure that their children remain safe.
