Lampton School -Week 23

Monday 4th March

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the eighth week of the Spring Term 2024. It’s Week B, so year assemblies are taking place. As it is National Careers Week, this is the focus for these assemblies as well as the use of Unifrog for students to record all of their enrichment and careers work.

As I reported last week, we are now entering the year team celebration evening season, with Y7 leading the way on Tuesday 19th March - we look forward to seeing all Y7 families on this occasion. This week sees Y12 Parents’ Evening on Thursday - please see details below.

As a large school with a very large site, it is important that all members of our community play their part in keeping the site clean, tidy and litter free. Could you please reinforce this message to your child/children so that we can all work and learn in a pleasant and tidy environment. Thank you for your support.

Finally, a very important notice. To safeguard every student in our school community we need to have at least two home contact details in place on SIMS. If you know that currently your child has only one emergency contact, please inform the school by emailing Ms Dhir on adhir@lampton.org.uk and provide an additional contact. We will be auditing this data in the coming weeks and will be contacting families who need to provide the additional data. Thank you for your support with this matter.

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Year 12 Parents’ Evening - 07 March 2024

We look forward to meeting the parents of year 12 pupils on Thursday.

We consider it vital that all parents attend parents' evening. Please check your emails for a schedule of appointments.

Please arrive five minutes before your first appointment and sign in; you will be given a pack containing your child’s report and other important information. Please keep to the appointment times, this helps to ensure the efficient running of the evening for all parents.

Ramadan

Many students and staff in our school community will be marking the month of Ramadan, which commences this weekend. We aim to support students who will be observing their fast and to pray. The prayer room has now moved to the old Dining Hall, so that we can accommodate larger numbers of students praying - students can access the prayer space during their breaktime, lunchtime and after school.  Where students who are fasting receive free school meals, they may collect a 'grab bag' lunch to take home for later.

If you would like to know more, we follow this guidance, endorsed by LB Hounslow and Hounslow Central Mosque.

Meet the SENDCo Event - 13th March 2024

Inclusion will be holding a Meet the SENDCo event on Wednesday 13th March 2024 3:20pm - 4:20pm for our families with children in Year 7 and Year 8 with an Education, Health and Care Plan or who have been diagnosed with an additional special educational need and/or disability. It will be held in our Communication Centre. At the event, parents/carers will be able to ask our SENDCO, Ms Hasan, any questions they have regarding their child’s provision or seek advice on how to seek further support from external agencies or the local borough. We look forward to welcoming you.

Safeguarding Bulletin: Sexting / Sharing Nudes and Semi-Nudes

Adolescents going through puberty, mobile phones with cameras and the internet is a combination that in recent years has fundamentally changed how children experience and explore their sexuality. Recent research suggests that by the age of 12, most young people have been sent sexualised content through their phones, and by 15 most young people have sent such messages too.

This presents a massive challenge in terms of how to keep young people safe, such are the many risks of these forms of behaviour. As much as we may like to say to young people to abstain from such behaviour, experience tells us that this may fall on deaf ears.

As a parent it's really important that we are aware of just how common these behaviours are so that you can make choices around the extent to which your child has access to a mobile phone. We strongly recommend that if your child does have their own internet enabled mobile phone, that either you check it regularly and / or you install software to monitor their usage to act as a deterrent.

It’s also important to know the minimum ages for accessing particular apps so that you can enforce this. Please note that the minimum age for Whatsapp is 16. This guide from the NSPCC also gives more information on how parents can approach talking to their children about this.

If you are concerned that your child, or any other is at risk, please do not hesitate to contact the safeguarding team at Lampton safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.
