Lampton School Newsletter: Week 12 2024-25
Posted on Nov 25th 2024Monday 25th November 2024
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the twelfth week of the Autumn Term 2024.
It’s Week B which means that whole school assemblies are taking place. During tutor period attendance and punctuality conversations will continue. We have seen the impact of this in the recently published data from the Department of Education which shows that Lampton’s overall attendance to date from September 2024 of 95% is above the national and local averages. Our target for every student in the school is attendance of 96% - so please continue to support your child/children to achieve this ambitious target. In school, we will be having a renewed focus on students in Y10 and Y11 to ensure that they capitalise on being in school on time, every day to support them in achieving the highest grades possible. My thanks to form tutors and our attendance team of Ms Virdi, Ms Emberson and Ms Kapila for all of their hard work in ensuring our students are maximising their learning potential by attending school, on time, day in day out.
Thank you to Y11 and their families who attended last Tuesday’s successful Sixth Form Open Evening. Please see details below about applications from Mrs Vowles (Director of Sixth Form).
Please see below a consultation as part of the process for the school to renew its determination for exemption from a daily act of Christian worship. The school has had this exemption in place for a significant period of time.
A reminder of some key dates:
- Thursday 5th December: Y9 Parents’ Evening
- Thursday 12th December: Y11 Parents’ Evening
- School will be closed on Friday 29th November and Monday 2nd December for a wellbeing weekend break for students and staff. School re-opens at the usual time of 8.40am (students to be on-site by 8.30am) on Tuesday 3rd December.
- A reminder too that the Autumn Term will end at 12.30pm on Friday 20th December 2024.
With best wishes for the week ahead,
Stephen Davis

Safeguarding
Please speak to your child at home about how they feel about school and whether they have healthy friendships. Do they know the difference between banter and bullying? Do their friends laugh at them and make them feel low about themselves? Here is some prompts from the Anti Bullying Alliance which can help children see the difference between banter and bullying
- Topic of the banter - topics that are sensitive, personal, appearance-based, or use offensive language are often considered not appropriate to joke about as banter.
- The relationship with the person - banter is more likely to be received positively by people or friendship groups that you know and are close to.
- Where the banter is happening - if the banter happens in more public settings or includes individuals beyond a friendship group, then this is more likely to be perceived as bullying.
- Whether the banter is repeated - if the banter is repeated many times, then it may stop being funny.
- The intent behind the banter - is the intent to cause harm, discomfort, social division/exclusion or public embarrassment?
- The reactions of the target - if the person receiving the banter feels uncomfortable, regardless of the initial intent, the banter may be perceived as bullying.
Attendance
Please see our outline for stages for attendance. There was quite a lot of information in last week’s letter about attendance and the different areas that are relevant to you. Any questions or queries please contact us. We are focusing on supporting students to get to school and lessons on time. Therefore, we have sent a number of letters regarding punctuality and if we do not see these students improve they will go on a punctuality contract.
Sixth Form Open Evening and applications
Thank you to parents and carers who attended our sixth form open evening on Tuesday 19th November. Applications for September 2025 entry are now open, with the application form on the sixth form section of our website. Applications should be submitted by Friday 20th December. Please talk to your son/daughter about their application and subject choices.

Lampton School Consultation: Application for Renewal of Exemption from Requirement for Christian Collective Worship
As per the Education Act 1996, all schools in England should ensure that there is a daily of Christian collective worship. The school currently has an exemption from this requirement, and pursues collective worship of a non-denominational variety through such activities as the assembly programme and the tutor programme. We are currently consulting on the renewal of the exemption, to maintain the status quo in our approach. Responses to the consultation are encouraged from all stakeholders, including staff, parents, students and other members of the local community. The consultation ends on Thursday 5th December at 12pm. The consultation document can be accessed here.
