Lampton School Newsletter: Week 14 2024-25
Posted on Dec 9th 2024Monday 9th December 2024
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the fourteenth week of the Autumn Term 2024; the last full week of this long term.
It’s our final Week B of this term, so our year assemblies are focusing on praise and celebration. It is at these events that the much-coveted subject praise badges are awarded. Congratulations to all students who have been nominated for these. We will also be celebrating excellent attendance and punctuality - the bedrock of success for students in all year groups. As a whole school we have received an award from Fischer Family Trust recognising that Lampton’s attendance places it in the top 25% of similar schools in the country.
On Thursday of this week we look forward to welcoming the parents and carers of year 11 students to school for their first parents’ evening of this very important year. On Friday, year 10 will start their first round of pre-public examinations (PPEs) with MFL listening papers, moving to the sports hall on Monday 16th December for their written papers. Careful preparation and performance is required by all students in the cohort. Also, this week year 9 will begin the journey to choosing their GCSE options - more details on this after Christmas. Finally, year 12 have been issued with their PPE timetable for the week commencing 6th January 2025 - so a really busy time for us all at Lampton.
A reminder that term ends on Friday 20th December at 12.30pm. Until then, it’s business as usual!
With best wishes for the week ahead,
Stephen Davis
Headteacher
Online safety
Please be aware of how much time your children are spending on screens, whether that is gaming, or their devices. They may be exposing themselves, sometimes without realising, to dangerous and more sinister apps, websites and people. Please read the following information from Internet Matters. It information is from Internet Matters Website and is designed to support parents. More information can be found here: https://www.internetmatters.org/
Actions to take if your child is a victim of grooming
If your child is being groomed online, it can be a very distressing time for both of you. It’s important to seek support and guidance as soon as possible and reassure your child that there is help available. Here are a number of actions you can take to deal with the situation:
- Find out who your child is talking to
- Speak to your child about who they are communicating with, if you still feel uncomfortable, discuss it with their friends, teacher, or someone that might be able to tell you.
- Give them advice about the dangers of sharing personal details with people they don’t know in real life and the potential risks of meeting up with someone in real life.
How to report online grooming:
CEOP is part of the National Crime Agency and helps keep children and young people safe from sexual abuse and grooming online.
What happens when you make a report?
If you make a report you’ll be contacted by one of the Child Protection Advisors via email or phone to talk further about the report you’ve made. Your child safety and wellbeing will be protected and they’ll work with you and other safety professionals to help. If a crime has been committed they’ll investigate to identify who was involved and bring them into the criminal justice system.
Examples of things children and young people report:
- Someone I met in an online game keeps trying to talk to me privately
- Someone online has asked me to send them nude images
- Someone online was talking to me about sex and it made me feel uncomfortable
- I did something that I was embarrassed about on webcam and someone has turned nasty towards me
What to do
Call 101 for non-emergencies or 999 if you are concerned that a child is in immediate danger
If you wish to remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 or report the issue online. Report any child abuse images you find hosted by websites to the Internet Watch Foundation.
Behaviour
Please be aware that students are not allowed smart watches that means they can access the internet. These will be confiscated as well as mobile phones if we see them. There have been incidents connected to students feeling unsafe and use of phones. Please ensure that you speak to your child at home about how to use their phone, monitoring how much they use their phone, but checking what they are exposing themselves to as well as having clear boundaries about times they use it as well. In school we will always confiscate it and it will be given back at the end of the day unless it is involved in an incident and we therefore can keep the phone for a longer period.
Nut free school
We are a nut free school which means that no nut products are permitted on the school site. We have several students and members of staff with severe nut allergies for whom life-threatening symptoms can be triggered by the slightest trace of nuts in the air. The food produced in the Dining Hall is all nut-free, and we ask families to support the school by not sending your children to school with any nut products. Please look carefully at the ingredients lists - it is surprising how often nuts can appear. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping students and staff safe at Lampton School.
