Lampton News - Week 20

Posted on Jan 31st 2022

Monday 31st January

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to the weekly update for the fifth week of the Spring Term 2022.  A reminder that as of last Thursday, 27th January, the wearing of face coverings became no longer mandatory in communal areas of the school. As I informed you last week, at Lampton the wearing of face coverings in classrooms and communal areas will be up to individual discretion. Local Public Health has the authority to make this strategy mandatory again, and if this is the case, you will be informed.

Currently in Hounslow infection rates are beginning to plateau and at Lampton we have seen a significant reduction in cases for both students and staff. We must however not become complacent and follow the Public Health guidance, including being vaccinated and boosted. The NHS vaccination team will be on site on Tuesday 22nd February and consent forms will be emailed. You may of course choose to have your child vaccinated earlier than this via one of the local walk-in centres. Details can be found on the Hounslow Council website.

Many thanks for your continued support and best wishes for the week ahead.

Holocaust Memorial Day

Last Thursday (27th January) was Holocaust Memorial Day. We were privileged that Lampton School was chosen to host the Hounslow Council commemoration event, albeit online. The Mayor of Hounslow introduced proceedings and Dr Martin Stern - a Holocaust survivor - spoke very pwerfully about his experience. Ms Farooq and 9Q represented Lampton, with the students asking Dr Stern very thoughtful and mature questions. Tim Durrant, Events Manager at Hounslow Council, contacted me after the event with the following message:

“Thank you for your email, and I am very pleased to hear that the students appreciated the talk from Dr Stern.

I wish to pass on my thanks to yourself, Ms Mirams, Ms Farooq and of course the pupils themselves, it was a highly successful event, and your students did yourself and Lampton School proud.”

Well done Y9 and our Religious Studies department. As part of our wider commemoration, Ms Jackson is leading whole school assemblies this week on this topic.

Wellbeing

Lampton School is committed to improving the wellbeing of their students. We will be recognising Children’s Mental Health Week 7th -13th Feb with the theme Growing Together. For example, the School Council will be running Art Calm Club for KS3 and KS4 during that week and there will be resources in tutor time. Please note that wellbeing resources are interwoven within the tutor time programme and the PSHE curriculum throughout the academic year.

Furthermore, our Support Centre team are running Exam Stress classes to help those Year 11 students who would like further support in preparation for examinations. Also, a selection of Wellbeing Ambassadors from the 6th form have been trained to offer peer to peer support to younger students.

This will take place online on Wednesday 2nd February. Please ensure that you have made the necessary appointments.

Safeguarding briefing: Managing family tension and conflict

Conflict within families is both inevitable and natural and as old as the family unit itself. However sometimes the level of conflict  - whether between parent and child, or between siblings, may become problematic to the point where outside help is required. This guide by the NSPCC provides some useful information on managing conflict and family tensions. If you would like further help and support, please don’t hesitate to contact the safeguarding team safeguarding@lampton.org.uk

Students staying after school to use the playground

We are reminding students this week that in addition to clubs and activities that take place after school, students may staff after school in the library until to complete work 4pm, and in the playground until 5pm. Please note that although there is a staff presence on site until these times, students are not directly supervised in the playground.

Locker rentals

A reminder that we have lockers available for rent in the main building, to help students stow away books and stay organised. The cost for the year is £18, and the cost is adjusted on a pro-rata basis. Parents may book a locker via this link.
