Lampton School - Week 25
Posted on Mar 14th 2022
Monday 14th March
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our weekly update for the eleventh week of the Spring Term. This week our thoughts continue to be very much with the people of Ukraine and surrounding countries and for members of our school community with connections to the region. As a school community we will be undertaking fundraising for Save the Children via the school council’s social action committee. Thank you for your support.
There are a number of important messages this week which I would appreciate if you could spend time reading and discussing with your child/children. In particular, I should like to draw your attention to the following:
-
Y11 and Y13 information from JCQ about this summer’s exam season;
-
The notice from the Police regarding anti-social behaviour in the high street and reiterate our expectation that students must go home from school in a safe and respectful manner - they are representing our community and should act accordingly;
-
Information about financial support from Hounslow Council.
Also, this week sees the Y12 Parents’ Evening online and advanced notice that our school production of ‘Matilda’ takes place on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th March - please do support this if you can.
Best wishes for the week ahead,
Stephen Davis

Emergency Grants from Hounslow Council
Hounslow Council has notified us that they have additional funds available to 31 March 2022 to support families struggling to pay for food and utility bills. They can also support families who need to replace white goods such as fridges, freezers or washing machines.
If you would like to apply for funds, please complete this form and email to curevenues@hounslow.gov.uk. If you are struggling to complete this and would like support, please get in touch with us. No supporting documents need to be submitted with the application. If the Council needs supporting information eg a utility bill we will contact the family directly to request it.
Safeguarding Briefing: Safety on the way to and from school
Later on this week all Year 7 students will be attending a session led by staff from Transport for London about road safety, this will include a live performance, seminar and Q & A about how to be safe on the road. This is part of our rolling programme of highlighting safety issues with students in PSHE lessons and during the tutor programme. We frequently remind students about appropriate behaviour on their way to school, and especially at the end of the school day. It’s easy to take for granted that our children know the rules of the road, or how to safely board a bus, or what to do if they feel unsafe on their way home, however in our experience it’s necessary for parents and carers to explicitly check their child’s understanding, especially in Years 7-9. Things to check include:
-
Not walking while looking at their phones
-
Always using the pedestrian crossings on the Great West Road
-
How to safely boarding a bus
-
Not using the alleyways around the school - these are prone to anti-social behaviour
-
If cycling, wearing a helmet and not listening to music
-
For specific information on Hounslow High Street, please see below
Hounslow High Street
We have received information from our local Safer Schools Police Officers that there has been a spike in anti-social behaviour and youth violence in Hounslow High Street at the end of the school day. In particular, this has happened in the Treaty Centre and around fast food outlets and has resulted in a number of young people being arrested and charged. Although no Lampton students have been implicated, we agree with the police that young people should avoid visiting the high street after school unless accompanied by a responsible adult.
Hot off the press: Lampton’s Basketball Team are Borough Champions
Congratulations to our Year 7 basketball team who have tonight been crowned as borough champions, please see below for a report from Coach Mike:
On Monday 14th we played our final home borough fixture game against Isleworth & Syon school. Having lost team captain Jibran to injury and a few players not available due to illness, the team only had five players available: Yahya, Naveed, Marick, Mihrad and Amaru for this crucial decider. It was a close game, but the fabulous five as I'm calling them did the job. Final score Lampton 25 Isleworth Syon 12.
