Lampton School - Week 32

Posted on May 16th 2022

Monday 16th May

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our weekly update for the fifth week of the Summer Term 2022. It’s Week A and our whole school assemblies are being led by Dr Isham on the theme of democracy. Our praise theme for this fortnight is that of ‘preparation’ as we begin to prepare ourselves for the start of our new academic year in June.

I am pleased to report that the Y9 trip for a group of Y9 students to Jamie’s Farm in Somerset last week was a great success and the Y8 in-school experience of the ‘Space Dome’ was great too. My thanks to all staff who gave up their time to organise these events for our students.

Public Examinations began today with Y11 sitting GCSE R.S.On Friday myself and Mr Smale led a ‘good luck ‘ assembly for students.  It’s Y13’s final day on Friday and we wish them every success - their final Lampton assembly takes place that day.

A reminder that Friday 27th May and Monday 6th June are INSET days, therefore school is closed for students. School resumes at the usual time of 8.40am on Tuesday 7th June - on this day all students must have a valid school ID card in order to access the canteen. Replacement cards, free of charge, are available between now and Thursday 26th May at Student Services. Please ensure that your child is prepared!

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Exam arrangements - Y11

Parents of students in Year 11 will no doubt be aware that today was the first day of GCSE examinations, with the whole year group sitting their first Religious Studies paper this morning, and Computing students sitting a paper in the afternoon. On the morning of examinations, we have asked students to ensure they are at the school by 8.25am at the latest, so that they can hand in their phone (to be kept securely by Student Services) and then attend a pre-exam meeting - a quick reminder of top tips for students to perform at their best in the examination. We have found that this also ensures that no students arrive late for examinations.

If students have examinations in the afternoon, they are let out of Period 3 10 minutes early at 12.20pm so that they can be first to access the canteen, and then have a 40 minute lunch break before their afternoon pre-exam meeting at 1pm.

In lessons for the next two weeks, students will be using lesson time to revise, and teachers will be on hand to support students in revising, and ensuring there is a calm and productive atmosphere. Students have been asked to bring in paper-based materials to revise from. Students in Year 11 will have their last day in school on Thursday 26th May, and their highly anticipated leavers’ assembly will follow on from the final examination at the end of June.

Safeguarding briefing: Would you know how to identify and report child abuse or neglect?

A new government campaign aims to inform everyone on how to identify possible signs of child abuse and neglect, so that this can be reported and action taken in order to protect children. Please see https://tacklechildabuse.campaign.gov.uk/ for further information.
