2022 GCSE results are in!
Posted on Aug 25th 2022
Our Year 11 students have done incredibly well in their GCSE examinations this summer. To put it into context, they were in Year 9 when the pandemic began and their learning shifted online. Throughout their GCSE courses our students studied independently at home, took part in lessons by videocall, had their in-person learning adapted according to social distancing requirements, were ill with Covid-19 symptoms and infections, and were taught by different teachers while their usual teacher was at home isolating. Layered with these changes have been the mental health challenges of lockdown, the emotions of losing loved ones and the fact that these students were preparing to sit regular GCSE examinations, rather than have their achievements assessed by their teachers, as the 2020 and 2021 cohorts experienced.
Lampton School’s Year 11 cohort of 2022 performed well across the curriculum in their GCSE examinations, in practical and vocational subjects as well as traditional academic disciplines. Results were particularly strong in English and Maths, where 70% of students achieved a grade 5 in both subjects. When comparing Lampton School’s results with the national averages, our students have achieved significantly better results than many of their peers across the country which puts them in an excellent position to make the most of their futures.
Councillor Lily Bath, Cabinet Member for Children, Learning and Employment, visited Lampton School on the day students arrived to open their results, and said, “Every student receiving their GCSE results has made all of Hounslow proud. After what has been a challenging couple of years for schools and students, they have shown fantastic resilience and commitment to achieve such amazing results.
“It was great to meet the students, to see the smiles on their faces and hear all about their next steps, which include A-Levels, a diverse range of vocational courses and apprenticeships. The future is bright for Hounslow.
Our headteacher, Stephen Davis said, “We are immensely proud of all our students receiving their GCSE results. The last few years have been tough for everyone – let alone young people preparing for their important examinations – but their hard work has been rewarded.
“Every teacher, staff member, parent and carer has also played a pivotal role in preparing the students for their GCSEs and ensuring they were successful.
“We are looking forward to welcoming many of them back in September to start sixth form. For those leaving us we wish them the best of luck in their new adventures.”
