Lampton School - Week 1
Posted on Sep 5th 2022
Monday 5th September
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to the first week of the Autumn Term 2022 and I hope that you all had a restful and relaxing holiday. In particular, welcome to the families of our new Y7 cohort who started their Lampton journey today.
Public Examination Results:
I am proud to report that our exam results Post-16 and at GCSE were excellent!
At ‘A’ Level the school has been placed in the top 10% of sixth forms nationally for progress by ALPS - a fantastic achievement given the disruption caused by the pandemic. Students have progressed to excellent university destinations, including Russell Group institutions and medical schools.
GCSE results were equally impressive, with a large increase in attainment - especially for students attaining the important grade 5+ in both English and mathematics and achievement in science and the EBac subjects. A massive congratulations to the students, their families and all staff on these incredible achievements.
The bar is now set very high for the current cohorts of students. I have every confidence that with a growth mindset, hard work from the start of the year and resilience, these standards can be maintained and, indeed, surpassed next summer!
Start of Term - a fresh start:
The beginning of a new term allows us to reset our priorities. As a school community our values of excellence, respect and integrity remain the bedrock of our work. We will be continuing our focus on presentation in all subjects and all years with our ‘5 Golden Rules of Presentation’ - please take time to look at your child/children’s exercise books and help them achieve the best standards of presentation possible. Please support your child by ensuring that they are fully equipped and ready to learn each day.
A reminder that our attendance target for all students is 96% and that we expect all students to be on-site by 8.30am each day.
Over the summer improvements to the site have taken place, including insulation to our buildings and re-flooring of some areas. Our new IT contractor began work on 1st September and further upgrades to our IT infrastructure will take place over the coming months.
Safeguarding priorities for the year ahead:
As a school community we take pride in ensuring that students thrive in a safe school environment. For the year ahead, we have identified a number of ‘contextual safeguarding’ issues - that is where students may face a range of issues due to the local and national factors. They are i) the impact of the cost of living crisis on families ii) preventing child on child abuse and iii) preventing child criminal exploitation. We will be educating students about risks through the curriculum in PSHE lesson and during registration through both the tutor and assembly programmes. As ever, we are also committed to supporting students facing adversity: if you have any concerns about your child, or any child, please do get in touch with the Safeguarding team safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.
Trust Board Vacancy:
An email will be sent to all families this week to invite applications for the two parent vacancies on the Trust Board of the school. Please look at the Trust Board pages on the website for an insight into this very important role.
I look forward to meeting many of you over the coming weeks at school events.
With best wishes for the term and week ahead,
Stephen Davis
