Lampton School News - Week 34

Posted on Jun 12th 2023

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the eighth  week of the Summer Term 2023. It’s Week B and our year assemblies are building on last week’s focus in our whole school assemblies on behaviour, in particular ‘making an excellent effort’.

As well as excellent classroom behaviour, we expect members of our community to display excellence when moving between lessons. This means: moving quickly between lessons - we have a very large site; following our one way systems; using ‘quiet voices’ mode when moving between lessons. With over 1,500 people on the move at the same time we need to be mindful of the sound we make so as to be considerate to others!

Last Monday we held an excellent ‘Futures Day’ for our current Y12 cohort as they prepare for UCAS applications and applications for other opportunities at the end of Y13. The day gave an opportunity for Lampton Alumni to come back and visit us and inspire our current cohort - it was great to see some old faces and celebrate their successes! On Friday 23rd June we will be hosting our Careers Fair - if you'd be willing to come and talk about your career path to students, please contact Ms Cowing our careers lead ecowing@lampton.org.uk

I am pleased to report that the Public Examinations are going well and we are now in the last few weeks of the season. Well done to Y11 and Y13 students for their maintained focus.

Please see important information about our arrangements during this week’s warm weather and safeguarding of LGBT+ students. The latter particularly pertinent in this Pride month of June - more on this in next week’s bulletin.

With best wishes for the week ahead.

Stephen Davis

Careers fair for Years 7-10

The careers team have been busy organising a careers fair for students in Year 7-10. We have a range of organisations represented a variety of careers pathways, but we also need your help!

Would you or your organisation be interested in having a stall and speaking to students? The event runs from 9:10am-1:30pm on Friday 23rd June. If time is a constraint, we can agree to either attending the morning or afternoon sessions. Please contact our Careers Lead, Emma Cowing, for more information ecowing@lampton.org.uk.

Y11 Parents - uniform

Now that students are on study leave, and we have declared a heatwave, they will no longer need their Lampton school uniform branded items. To help support parents who are struggling with the cost of living crisis, we are keen to see that as much uniform can be recycled as possible. We are asking Y11 students to donate their blazers, ties, school bags and any other uniform that they (or younger siblings) no longer require - by leaving bags of uniform at Student Services.

We will then wash and dry the uniform before making this available to students in younger year groups - more details to follow on this in future bulletins.

Heatwave

As the temperature is predicted to rise above 25C for the rest of the week, we are declaring a heatwave. Under our new uniform policy, this means that students are strongly encouraged (but not required) to take off your ties and blazers. We expect this heatwave to last through Friday, so students do not need to bring in your blazers and ties until next week. We will review the weather on Thursday, and then have a further update ready for staff and students during Friday registration - we will also send a text message to parents to update on Thursday.

Safeguarding LGBT+ students

Following an update in safeguarding guidance this year, schools are specifically required to ensure that LGBT+ students (and students who are perceived to be LGBT+) are protected from harm.  At Lampton, any form or homophobic behaviour (including transphobia) is a non-negotiable: respect for difference - whether race, religion or sexuality, is a core value here. We always want to be an inclusive environment for students - this is both aligned with our values, and legally mandated by the 2010 Equalities Act.

As June is Pride Month, in the week beginning 19th June the whole school assembly will focus on creating an inclusive and supportive environment for LGBT+ members of the school community. We also have a diversity group which runs every Thursday morning to support students who may be LGBT, or who wish to be an ally. If you have concerns that students may be subject to any bullying, please refer to the safeguarding team safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.

Measles letter

Please be advised that measles cases are on the rise locally, and see this letter from NW London NHS for further information.

Lost property

If your child has lost any belongings at school this year, please ask them to collect it from the Old Dining Hall on Wednesdays and Fridays 15:30-15:45. Any items left will be recycled during the summer holidays. Here are some of the coats and bags that have been handed in without any names on - please ensure all your child’s belongings are clearly labelled with their name so that they can be returned if lost.
