Lampton School - Week 10
Posted on Nov 13th 2023Monday 13th November
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the tenth week of the Autumn Term 2023. It’s Week B and our year assemblies are being led each day by Ms White on our Lampton Reading Programme - building on the theme of Lampton being a ‘reading school’. Please do ask your child/children about this and the reading which they do each day in tutor period and the disciplinary reading they do in all of their subjects.
As a school we are excited to announce the implementation of the SIMS Parent App. You will receive your set up email tomorrow and this will give you access to live information about your child’s progress, attendance and behaviour as well as school updates via your mobile device. More details about this are below. This will really enhance two way communication between home and school for all members of our community. Any queries about this should be directed to parentapp@lampton.org.uk
Our attendance figures continue to be above the local and national average, and we thank you for your support in ensuring that your child attends school everyday. Y11 have topped the leaderboard with 97% followed by Y7 at 94.7% and Y8 at 94.2%.
Last Thursday evening saw a packed school hall and atrium for our Sixth Form Open Evening. My thanks to Ms Vowles (Head of Sixth Form), the sixth form leadership team and all those involved in making the event such a success.
We have had a busy couple of weeks with in-school enrichment activities taking place. Y10 competed in the Jack Petchey ‘Speak Out’ challenge and Y8 took part in ‘Your Life Your Choice’ workshops. I am delighted that we have received excellent feedback from the facilitators of both sessions. For Y10, Ms Majithia (Head of Year 10) received the following comment: Many thanks for an excellent two days at Lampton. I must say all the students were really well-behaved and good to work with - very unusual with a whole year group. I didn’t have any trainer saying they had a difficult group, so a real credit to the school, staff and students. While, Mr Bugembe (Head of Year 8) reported the following: The feedback from the external presenters was that the behaviour of the students at Lampton, was the best that they have experienced when delivering the sessions. Well done to all those involved - embracing our Lampton value of excellence!
Finally, I’m pleased and proud to report that the Local Authority has published initial application numbers for entry to Hounslow secondary schools for 2024. Lampton has topped the list with the most number of applications received - making our school the most sought after in the local area! This is a great accolade and testimony to the hard work of all members of our school community and clear evidence of the positive relationships which exist between staff, students and families. Excellence, respect and integrity in action.
With best wishes for the week ahead.
Stephen Davis

Safeguarding briefing: How does the school keep students safe online?
When students are on the school site, or using a school issued chromebook, we ensure that students are protected from online threats via our filtering and monitoring provided by Smoothwall. The filtering service ensures that students are not able to access inappropriate websites, and the monitoring system employs keystroke logging to flag any problematic words, phrases or questions that students type. This is monitored in real time and potential problems are relayed to the school for action.
We strongly recommend that parents use strong filters on their home internet, and on mobile internet packages to keep their children safe, and perform your own monitoring at home - for example by regularly checking your child’s phone. More information on how to keep your child safe can be accessed here: https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/parental-controls/
