Posted on May 7th 2024
Tuesday 7th May
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the fifth week of the Summer Term 2024. It’s Week B with year assemblies taking place.
As you will no doubt now be aware via our communications, we have been informed that Ofsted will be inspecting our school on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th May. There are further details below, including a link to a parent/carer survey. This is an opportunity for us to celebrate the continued and consistent success of our school over a number of years and the ambition we all share for the success of our students. Thank you in advance for your support.
With best wishes for the week ahead,
Stephen Davis
Ofsted letter to parents
We emailed a letter to all parents from Ofsted earlier with details about the inspection. If you did not receive this, please go to the letters home section of the website to access this. Please do complete the parent survey, this really helps us inform our provision and celebrate our successes, and can be accessed directly via this link.
Today’s author visit for Year 9 students
The year nine cohort were treated to a fantastic insight into the world of publishing this week. Sufiya Ahmed - the award winning author - came and spoke to the whole year about writing and the process she goes through, as she adds to her 31 published books!
It was especially exciting as Year 9 had just finished reading her novel, Secrets of the Henna Girl in their English lessons. Sufiya delivered a fascinating talk, which covered everything from her time as a parliamentary campaigner to marketing director to published author. She then held two bespoke writing classes for a number of students who had entered a writing competition at the school.
It was a great visit and we hope to invite her back again, so she can continue to inspire our young readers and writers.
Safeguarding Briefing: Sextortion
A recent has highlighted growing evidence that young people are at risk of "sextortion". The crime involves people being forced into paying money, or meeting some other financial demand, under the threat of the release of intimate pictures. In some cases, the people behind it will trick the victim into creating or sending the material; in others, they will make digital mockups that look sufficiently real to carry a threat. This underlines the importance of parents ensuring that there are filters on home internet service, and that if your child has a smartphone, their usage is monitored (see this guide for further information).
The Internet Watch Foundation has guidance for parents who are concerned that there child may be subject to ‘sextortion’. If you have concerns about your child or any other young person, please contact the safeguarding team safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.
Consent workshops for students in Y10-13
Starting this week, the charity Brook will be delivering workshops for students in Y10-13 about the importance of knowing the law on sexual consent. This is in support of our work in educating young people about boundaries to help protect themselves and others and reduce the likelihood of perpetrating, or being the victim of sexual abuse and / or harassment. Sessions for Y10 students take place this week, with sessions for remaining year groups taking place in June and September.
