Lampton School Newsletter: Week 20 2024-25
Posted on Feb 3rd 2025Monday 3rd February 2025
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the fifth week of the Spring Term.
It’s Week A with whole school assemblies taking place being led by Mr Bates (Deputy Headteacher) on the theme of the power of critical thinking, empathy and compromise.
It was great to see so many year 8 families last Tuesday at the first of our annual year group celebration events and this week we look forward to welcoming year 10 parents/carers at Parents’ Evening on Thursday 6th February from 4 - 7pm.
UCAS applications for university entrance 2025 have now closed. 146 applications have been submitted and my thanks to Mrs Vowles (Head of Sixth Form), Ms Cowing (Head of year 13), Ms Hunt (university admissions support) and Ms R Dhadli (sixth form administrator) for their hard work in ensuring the deadline was met and that so many applications were submitted. I am pleased to report that students have already received offers for places, including one for Oxford and one for Cambridge universities. We look forward to celebrating these offers translating into places in August when the exam results are published! Until then, for year 13 it’s hard work all the way. A reminder that parents’ evening for year 13 is on Thursday 13 February from 16.00-19.00.
A reminder that Friday 14 February is our annual remote learning day. School will be closed to students, except those who have been asked to attend specific activities.
On Friday 31 January I received the sad news that a former member of staff, Susan Casey, had passed away. Ms Casey had been a member of staff at Lampton School from 1981 until her retirement in 2012. She was head of English for many years and deputy headteacher from 2004 until her retirement. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time. Ms Casey had an incredible impact on our school and countless students during her tenure. She was an outstanding colleague who will be much missed.

Remote Learning Day
14 February 2025 is remote learning day. This day is intended to give teachers time to support pupils to prepare for exams or with their non-examined assessments. All pupils will work remotely on this day unless they are in year 11, 12 or 13. Year 11 will be in an English exam from 08.30 to 11.30. After this selected year 11 pupils will stay on site to receive support. Selected year 12 and 13 pupils will be invited to attend school on this day to receive similar support. The pupils in year 11, 12 and 13 who have been selected to receive support will receive an individual timetable. This will tell them what support they will receive, where the support is taking place and when the support is taking place. Teachers who teach pupils on 14 February 2025 will set work for them. This will be available on Google Classroom. Pupils are expected to complete this work in time for their next lessons in those subjects.
Nuts at Lampton School
Since 2022 we have tried to maintain a nut-free environment at the school. We are assessing the need to continue with this with a view to allowing nut products on site from April 2025 via this consultation which is open until Monday 10 February. We will keep parents and carers informed of any changes following this consultation.
If your child has an allergy that the school is not already aware of, please email enquiries@lampton.org.uk with your child's name and the details of the allergy. If your child has been prescribed rescue medication relating to their allergy, please deliver this to Reception and provide written confirmation that you are happy for trained school staff to administer it in an emergency. We recommend that students with prescribed EpiPens carry one with them at all times as well as keeping a spare at Student Services.
