Lampton School Newsletter: Week 24 2024-25

Posted on Mar 17th 2025

Monday 17th March 2025

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the tenth week of the Spring Term 2025. It’s Week B, so year assemblies are taking place. In the assemblies for years 7, 8 and 9 very important information will be shared about the end of year examinations taking place from Tuesday 22nd April in English, mathematics and science. It is essential that your child/children take these examinations seriously and revise fully for them. Advice and guidance about how to do this, and how to get into good revision habits early in preparation for GCSE will be shared with students.

This week sees a first for Lampton School in that our school production will be staged off-site at the Hounslow Arts Centre. Students and staff have been working for months preparing for the performances of Shrek taking place at 6.30pm on Thursday and Friday evenings this week. Please support them by coming along. It would be great to see a packed house! Details are below.

Many of you may have seen the coverage in the media about the government plans with respect to the Online Safety Act and its impact on schools. There are plans to raise the age of digital consent - i.e. the age when you can use a smartphone, and associated apps legally, from 13 to 16. Miss Kapila (Deputy Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead) writes in greater detail about this below. At Lampton, our recommendation is that students do not need a smartphone in school. If a mobile phone is required a simple device that makes calls and text messages is sufficient. From September 2025 smartphones will not be permitted for the new year 7 cohort and the school strongly advocates that parents and carers for students in all year groups follow this rule. Smartphones are a risk to all students regardless of their age. You may find the following website helpful: https://smartphonefreechildhood.co.uk/

Finally, year 11 parents’ evening takes place on Thursday 27th March from 4 -7pm and we look forward to full attendance on that vital occasion.

Advanced dates:

Friday 4th April                                  Spring Term ends at 12.30pm for students in all year groups

Tuesday 22nd April                          Summer Term begins at 10.00am for students in all year groups

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Headteacher

Mobile phone use

We have updated our mobile phone policy in line with the most recent research and Government discussions. As a school community we have decided that students should not bring smartphones to school. Click here for an example of the type of phone students should bring into school. Most incidents we have to investigate that cause significant mental and physical impact on students, stem from online conversations and interactions. Children are exposed to inappropriate content online. They also at risk from meeting strangers online through WhatsApp, Snapchat, TikTok and other online platforms like PlayStation Network.

It is important that we protect children from such dangers and we ask for your support in having these conversations with your child so that they know what we expect from them as a student at Lampton School.

If you are concerned about your child's location you can purchase an AirTag. AirTags are an easy way to identify the location of your child. You can attach it to their backpack and then see the location of the AirTag on the radar in the Find My app. Click here for more information about AirTags.

Safeguarding

Tuesday 18th March is National Child Exploitation Awareness Day. The campaign aims to highlight the issues surrounding child exploitation (CE); encouraging everyone to think, spot and speak out against abuse and adopt a zero-tolerance to adults developing inappropriate relationships with children or children exploiting and abusing their peers. NWG are committed to the fight against CE and supporting victims and their families who are subjected to child exploitation. Please support this by talking to your child at home about this, raising awareness and also ensuring they understand that child exploitation can happen online and can happen with people they think they know or consider to be friends. Please look at this link for more information on spotting the signs of child exploitation.

Character Education

At Lampton we focus on all students being the best version of themselves. We do this through a focus on our character traits. This half term we are specifically focusing on students taking responsibility. If your child is in an after school sanction or if they are in the reflection room, please speak to them about what they could have done differently and how they can take responsibility for their actions. We want to make sure all students are engaged in learning and maximising their learning time. If you feel you would like further support or information please email the relevant head of year.

Responsibility

Attendance

Thank you to you all for your support in regards to attendance. It means that as a school we are in the top 20% of schools in the country. This is brilliant and we want to continue to recognise excellent attendance through congratulation letters, students those students who have extenuating circumstances but still have attendance above 96%. Please continue to work with us.  If you feel you need support to engage your child to attend school every day and on time please contact the attendance officer, your child’s head of year, Ms Virdi or Miss Kapila.
