Lampton School Newsletter: Week 23 2024-25
Posted on Mar 10th 2025Monday 10th March 2025
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the ninth week of the Spring Term 2025. It’s Week A, so year assemblies are taking place. These are being led by Ms Vowles (Head of Sixth Form) and focus on our rights and responsibilities.
Shrek, our school production for this year, is taking place next week on Thursday and Friday evenings. This is being held at Hounslow Arts Centre and it would be fantastic to see as many members of our community attending the performances. Details of how to purchase tickets can be found below.
It was great to see so many year 7 students and their families last Tuesday at their celebration evening. The next event is for year 10 on Tuesday 20th May.
Students in years 7,8 and 9 will be sitting their formal examinations in the sports hall in English, mathematics and science during the week commencing 21st April when we return to school after the Easter break. More details of how students can prepare for these assessments will be shared via subject teachers and year assemblies next week. The examination timetable will be issued next week. Please note that there will not be an examination for science in year 9 as this was completed as part of the options process.
Some advanced notice for the start of the summer term. School will commence for students on Tuesday 22nd April at 10am with registration. There will not be period 1 lessons that day, normal lessons commence after registration with period 2.
Finally, we are looking forward to full attendance by year 11 students and their parents/carers at the final parents’ evening for the year group on Thursday 27th March. It is imperative that every student attends this as significant preparation for the public examinations next term.
Advanced date:
Friday 4th April Term ends at 12.30pm
With best wishes for the week ahead,
Stephen Davis
Headteacher
Term dates 2025-26
Next year’s term dates are published on the school website. Please note that there is a slightly extended Autumn half-term break.
Attendance
Please be aware that if we do not hear from you and your child is absent for 3 days or more then we can complete a home visit to support you and your child return to school. If we only hear from you via email we will call and follow this up and if we do not hear from you we will complete a home visit. Thank you for all your communication about any absence. Please continue to email and call and let us know about any missing time of school. (absence@lampton.org.uk)
We know that attendance to school every day makes a difference to your child's achievement. Please let us know if there are ongoing medical concerns so that we can support your child in school and also record this accurately. If students fall below 90% we will complete an attendance contract. This is to ensure the school is implementing appropriate interventions which will support you as a family and your child to improve their attendance. Thank you to all of you for continuing to send your child to school.
Safeguarding
Please speak to your child about how they use their phone- how much time they spend on the phone and what they use it for.
What are the risks?
Like any piece of technology, phones have both benefits and risks. Many of the risks depend on how a phone is being used. There are some key concerns people have about children using phones in particular:
- Cyberbullying and harassment from friends and strangers
- Unwanted or inappropriate contact from friends and strangers
- Over-sharing personal information, such as full name, location or images
- Accessing inappropriate content
- Spending too much money
- Excessive screen time
- Behaving inappropriately or unkindly online
What can I do to manage their risks?
Parental controls can help limit potential risks, such as installing passwords, blocking certain websites or apps, and setting time limits and spending limits. For further information on how to set up controls on a phone, visit Internet Matters’ Smartphone Guides. Please talk with your child about their understanding of the risks when using a phone. Ask them what they would do if something happened, for example, if they experienced cyberbullying. Decide together on what they should do if that happened, for example, take a screenshot and tell an adult. A family agreement can help you have these conversations. Explore safety tools such as blocking and privacy settings together and help your child set these up where necessary.
Make sure your child knows to speak to a trusted adult immediately if anyone they only know online (a stranger) asks to meet up, for their personal information, or for photos or videos of them.
Event: Mindful Lampton – Forget Me Not
In March there will be an event dedicated to the commemoration of loved ones in a peaceful and reflective space. This event has been developed by the Friends of Lampton Park, in conjunction with Lampton Greenspace’s Countryside Team, Hounslow Council’s Parks team and Habitats and Heritage - as part of the Volunteering in Parks Programme. Wildflower meadow ground preparation sessions will take place on:
- Thursday 13th March 2025, 2pm – 4pm
- Thursday 20th March 2025, 2pm – 4pm
And a COVID memorial and wildflower sowing event will take place on:
- Sunday 6th April, 10am – 1pm
This day will feature a wildflower seed sowing event ceremony, symbolising the growth and remembrance of those people have lost. It will be followed by warm tea, coffee and meaningful conversations. The meeting place for all events will be at the Lampton Park pond.
World Book Day
World Book Day was last Thursday, 6th March. Pupils took part in a variety of activities including a quiz about books and authors and a competition to work out which books were certain teachers’ favourites. Pupils also received a voucher that they could use to purchase a book to read at home. The picture below shows the members of staff that dressed up as their favourite book characters.
