Monday 21st February
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our weekly update for the eighth week of the Spring Term. I hope that you enjoyed the half-term break last week and are looking forward to Spring as the morning and evenings become lighter.
Later today, the government is due to make its ‘Living with Covid’ announcement and in particular changes to self-isolation. Once we receive specific guidance from the DfE with regard to this in relation to schools, we will update you via this page.
A reminder that Y7 Parents’ Evening takes place, online, on Wednesday 2nd March.
Thank you for your on-going support.
Stephen Davis
Changes to our attendance procedures
As we start to move beyond the Covid pandemic we are seeking to rebuild students’ positive habits of attendance and punctuality.
To ensure that we are aware of any students who may be absent from school as early in the day as possible, we are strongly encouraging parents to email us before 8.30 with the full name, form group and reason for absence for their child. If you don’t have access to email, we can also be reached via text message on 07860 055 490. To help staff process student attendance as quickly as possible, please avoid calling the school unless it cannot be avoided. This will help us to message you as early as possible to let you know if your child is absent and a reason has not been provided.
We have also updated attendance section of the website with more information on attendance and punctuality, for more information please see: https://www.lampton.org.uk/1333/attendance
Safeguarding briefing: Vaping
A normal part of growing up is for teenagers to start to test the boundaries and rules that as parents you would expect them to observe. It is quite possible that your child may be tempted to experiment with tobacco, or more recently vapes. Although not as medically harmful as cigarettes, vapes do contain nicotine and young people can become addicted. Moreover, there is concern that vapes may be a gateway to smoking cigarettes. The school defines a vape as a prohibited item, and students found to be in possession of a vape will be internally suspended (Reflection Room). If the school suspects that a student is in possession of a vape, then in accordance with our legal powers the student will be searched. If students are found to be selling vapes, then they may be suspended or even permanently excluded from the school. We recommend that all parents talk to their children about For more information, please see: https://www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/heart-matters-magazine/news/e-cigarettes#:~:text=More%20people%20may%20be%20using,level%20than%20in%20conventional%20cigarettes.
Exam Board Guidance for Year 11 and Year 13 students:
As we highlighted before half term, exam boards have released guidance on how they intend to support students with their GCSE and A-Level exams. This has now all been collated onto one government portal with the link below . Please be assured that over the next few weeks, teachers will be explaining to students the implications for their courses and revision programmes.
