Lampton School - Week 2
Posted on Sep 12th 2022
Monday 12th September
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the second week of the Autumn Term 2022.
Naturally, our thoughts this week are focused on the death of H M Queen Elizabeth II. As a school community we have been remembering the Late Queen’s life initially in tutor period on Friday 9th September and subsequently this week in our whole school assemblies for Week A. As part of our reflection we have been considering the character of the Late Queen and how we can learn from her extraordinary life of service.
The end of last week and this week will be characterised by ‘once in a lifetime’ events. Yesterday, I was privileged to represent all Hounslow schools at the Proclamation of His Majesty King Charles III by the Mayor of Hounslow - an event replicated in towns and cities across the country. I have urged students to watch these historic events unfold on television as the week progresses so they can be part of history in the making.
School will be closed next Monday, 19th September, for the national day of mourning marking the late Queen’s State Funeral taking place at Westminster Abbey. Further details can be found below.

Attendance
In accordance with guidance from the Department for Education, school will remain open during the national period of mourning. Monday 19th September has been announced as the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ and declared a bank holiday as such we will close on this day only. Students have been encouraged to watch the event on television to be a part of this historic event. School will open again as per normal timings from Tuesday 20th September.
Nut Free School
This is a reminder to all parents and carers that we are a nut free school. If your child has packed lunch, please avoid all nut based products. Thank you for your support.
Safeguarding Briefing - grooming
As one of our contextual safeguarding priorities for the year ahead, we know that there are some people in the local area who may attempt to ‘groom’ so that can manipulate, exploit or abuse children. Such grooming behaviour can take place both online, and in person, by someone known to the child, or by a stranger. To find out more on how to protect your child, please see: https://www.nspcc.org.uk/what-is-child-abuse/types-of-abuse/grooming/
As ever, if you are concerned that your child or any other child may be at risk, please do contact the Safeguarding team safeguarding@lampton.org.uk
The Screen Time Diet
How much time should a young person be on their phone? When at school, we ensure that students stay off their phones at all times. However, when at home, it can be difficult to find the right balance between letting your child use their phone, and restricting access. This guide from My Tutor offers some thoughts on how to get this balance right:
Character Curriculum
Character is a set of personal traits and depositions that produce specific moral emotions, inform motivation and guide conduct. It is the way we feel, think and behave. It can include moral (for example gratitude, respect and kindness), civic (e.g. service and volunteering), intellectual (e.g. reflection and reasoning) and performance virtues (e.g. grit and motivation). Students who consistently demonstrate good character will succeed both in school and beyond, and we will be following a character curriculum with year 7 so that all students can flourish. Year 7 will be starting their character curriculum this week with an introduction focusing on what is character and how to show good character in and out of school. In the upcoming weeks they will focus in depth on the character traits of kindness, organisation and motivation.
