Lampton School - Week 4
Posted on Sep 26th 2022
Monday 26th September
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
Welcome to our newsletter for the fourth week of the Autumn Term 2022. It’s Week A and our whole school assemblies are focusing on the theme ‘Why are you here?’ challenging students to think about their individual purpose and also to celebrate the excellent achievement of last year’s students in the Public Examinations.
As always, it is a very busy week in school. A few highlights include: European Day of Languages - with a special menu in the canteen today and a treasure hunt for Y7 & Y8 later in the week; Open Morning for next year’s Y7 on Tuesday; preparations for October’s Black History Month and a staff Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer on Friday.
As you may be aware, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools, Amanda Spielman, has abolished the system whereby ‘Outstanding’ schools are exempt from inspection by Ofsted. Furthermore, she has stated that intention is to reduce the number of schools awarded the top grade by 50%. For our school, this means that we are preparing to be inspected between now and the published deadline of July 2025. While the new Common Inspection Framework is significantly more rigorous than the Framework in place when we were last inspected in 2013, I am confident that Lampton is very well placed to be successful in our next inspection. Over the coming months, I will update you further.
A reminder that our annual Open Evening takes place on Thursday 6th October from 6.00pm - 8.30pm. School will end for students at 12.30pm on Thursday 6th, with a later start on Friday 7th October at 9am for registration and lessons 1 - 5 as per usual timings.
With best wishes for the week ahead.
Stephen Davis
You Can Do Day
We are hosting a ‘You Can Do Day’ on Friday 21st October 2022. Year 11 students will be involved in a speed-dating style event where they will engage with a variety of adults from different careers and industries, having the opportunity to ask honest questions and gain an insight into the career path.
This is where we need you. Anyone is welcome and we are aiming to provide students with insights into a wide range of career routes. We are looking to inspire our students, raise aspirations and overcome stereotypes: opening students' eyes to opportunities that they might not have thought about yet.
You would be needed from 8:45am – 1:30pm, but we can be flexible if you can only participate in session 1 (9:00am-11:00am) or session 2 (11:30am-1:30pm). We would love to have visitors from all walks of life, whether you have perhaps got your job via more ‘unconventional routes’ to help show our pupils that there are lots of different ways to get to where they want to be.

Safeguarding bulletin: Clubs, activities and tutors
As you will know, the school has systems and processes to ensure that children are safeguarded in school. But when students attend clubs, tutoring or other activities that are not run by the school and take place in the community, how do you know that your child remains safe? The Department for Education has released new guidance for parents and carers to help - and this includes some essential questions that all parents should ask: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-parents-and-carers-on-safeguarding-children-in-out-of-school-settings/keeping-children-safe-during-community-activities-after-school-clubs-and-tuition-questions-to-help-parents-and-carers-choose-out-of-school-settings
